Adjusting

American Soldier says,

It isn’t easy to say the least. Being home is nice don’t get me wrong. However getting back into the groove of things is the challenge.

I know it isn’t easy AS. But reading you as long as I have, I know you wont let it slow you down for long.
I hope the shoulder is doing OK. How has it been feeling? You keep us posted on your surgery OK.

  2. Edward Says:

    Hi AS,

Yes, the adjustment from combat mode to the soft life you were protecting will take some time, but you will do it. Your lovely wife will help you make the transition. Just be patient. Go out to see the fireworks for the celebration of the 4th. It will likely speed your adjustment, showing you that every “bang” is not someone trying to kill you. Just don’t forget and fall back into the patrol driving action on the roads here.

Welcome home, breath free and easy, and enjoy the free society that you have fought to protect. Do not be embarrased if citizens wish to show their thanks — we are embarrased that you who serve have given so much and we have continued living our daily lives as if nothing is happening, no sacrifice at all on our part.

Since I have never been in your shoes, nor your wife’s, I’d love to hear more about the adjustment from what you’ve been through to home life. Please elaborate sometime.

  19. Janice Says:

    Happy 4th of July, sir.
My mom said that you are back home. She said that you had been hurt and had to come home to have surgery to be fixed. I am so sorry that you got hurt, but I am very happy that you will be all right. She also said that you may not be able to go back to fight. Sir, that kinda makes me happy….you see, I don’t want anyone to get hurt fighting for freedom, but at the same time I know that no matter what, it will happen. So at least I know someone else will be safe. My cousins have come back too.
I just wanted to say thank you again too…..for eveything you have done…..since we are celebrating our country’s indepense today, it really does seem fair that we are helping other co untries get theirs………….I don’t understand the people over in Iraq and the middle East…..the terrorists that will kill just to kill…………but maybe I wouldn’t have understood the reasons behind the colonies breaking free either……………..and that ended up being a really good thing. What I want now is to just not be aftraid.
I’m just thinking now, you might not remember me….My mom let me write to you a few times a while ago…..I only wrote a few times, but I prayed a whole lot. I graduated from 5th grade! But now I will be going to a whole new school…………..that’ll be scary too.
Anyway, happy 4th, Sir. And as my mom says, “Be Well!”
    Lizzie

Happy 4th, and thank you for serving - no matter what roll you did or didn’t play, you signed up and were prepared to fight. So thank you.

I hope that things get easier for you, but I think that you’ll get through it just fine. :) Good luck!

Adjustments are never easy. You have to adjust to wife and kids,. the Mrs. has to adjust to having a man around the house again. As I remember when my husband who was a sailor came home from 2 years of service in the Korean conflict, suddenly I had to share decision making,. Over night there was hubby—- it was not an easy adjust for me to make after having been in control for so long. Or for hubby to stand back and ease in slowly. Thankfully we worked our way through it. Any other wives out there have the same problem?

  26. zipcard2 Says:

I hope things are going well for you AS. God Bless You and thank

    you again!
