A day in the life of an American Soldier. The personal passages of everything from family life to war.

What have you done for your country today?

American Soldier says,

The title is bold but true.

I woke up this morning and read about what is going on in New Orleans, Mississippi and Alabama. I felt as a Soldier I should see what I could do to help. So as the old slogan goes:

“And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”

JFK

So there is a good chance that I may be able to go and assist my fellow Americans in a time of need. Right here at home.

If I go then my surgery would be put off. The satisfaction of helping far outweighs the small pain I may have to deal with.

Nothing concrete and nothing guaranteed. However, my name is in the hat.

UPDATE - Check out some things you can do to assist. Soldiers’ Angel’s has initiated Operation Katrina Relief Fund.

GOD BLESS YOU, A.S.!!!! Dang, now I’m even MORE prouder of you, LOL!!!!

Pretty speechless at the moment, but I’d file this under the “heroic” category myself… I know, I know, you’ll disagree ~ but truly, volunteering to go, even with a painful injury, is just an amazingly selfless act. Must be that Soldier blood in ya!!!!

THANK YOU for doing all you do for our country!

    AS,
Ditto what Kat said! That is very heroic of you to want to go help the people.

It is heartbreaking to watch the news and see all those people who are homeless now and don’t have even immediate needs.

God Bless you AS for wanting to help! Hope that shoulder doesn’t give you too much pain while helping! Take care!!

Tosha ~ I’m with you on that one. Both hubby and I dearly want to go down there to help, but we are not able to. We are SO broke right now, literally down to our last (less than) $100, among other things… this feeliing of helplessness is horrible, i just want to drop everything and run down there and do SOMETHING, and I can’t and it’s darn near killing me.    All i can do is pray….

That area is increasingly getting dangerous. I predict martial law within the next week if not sooner. Donate, pray or bring attention to causes that can help. That is the best you can do for them.

I know a lady who is involved with “Operation Quiet Comfort” from Louisiana ~ thankfully, she is OK ~ but she said that they already are in a state of martial law…they have now the legal right (according to her) to shoot to kill anyone attempting to loot their property, etc.

You are a true HERO in my book. Thank you so very much for all you do for our wonderful country. I am in Mississippi, about 150 miles from the coast and New Orleans. We had about 20 trees fall on our property, we still have no lights and no water, but it could have been so much worse. We have just been able to see the news on a little portable television tonight, and it is unbelievable what we are seeing. I just thought it was bad here in MS. My heart goes out to all these people in the coastal areas of MS and LA.

Again, Thanks for all you are doing for our country. You have a great big heart.

A.S. We are so proud of you. First defending your country overseas, now protecting your fellow Americans on their home soil. We can’t thank you enough–the devastation is incomprehensible!

I sent a donation and I set up a special link area kn my sidebar for the relief services. Been trying tp spread the word. The whole thing is so shocking to me. It really does look like a bomb went off!As helpless as I feel when I look at the devastation, I can’t imagine how the residents must feel.

But I have also experienced anger at the MSM and that fool over in Germany. I puut a litttle mesage to him on my blog. He may never see it but it sure made me feel good.
