A day in the life of an American Soldier. The personal passages of everything from family life to war.

Reverse reflection

American Soldier says,

You ever find yourself proverbially dangling at the edge of a cliff? Where everything around you seems so overwhelming, and you can’t quite reach for safety. Life can be a tough son-of-a-bitch sometimes. I take it in strides. However, I think about what could have been or what might happen all the time. I am a glutton towards myself but that’s just me.

As far as I’m concerned, my life is nothing but a big test. I strive to be the best but can’t be everyday. We are creatures of many flaws. We just have to find a way to manipulate the flaws into a method that works for us. Compromise!

So what is the point of this post? The seamless and constant search for perfection is a fruitless effort. Settling is an excuse and to strive is endless. Philosophical as it may seem, life is truly what you make of it.

    I hear ya AS..

Find myself in the same spot these days… In a poem I once wrote…

I kicked that dog and got bitten back…
    I didn’t cry, I didn’t smile…
I just turned and gave it another crack…

“As far as I’m concerned, my life is nothing but a big test. I strive to be the best but can’t be everyday.”

Well, that certainly makes two of us, LOL ~ and probably there’s a few million others out there like that, too, I’m sure.

Yep, life IS what you make of it ~ I saw a saying recently: “Life is not about the hand you are dealt. It’s about how you play that hand!” Or something like that. Or, as Chuck Swindoll (a really cool bible teacher/preacher) says, “…Life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it!” Or, to quote the quote CJ over at “A Soldier’s Perspective” has in his email signature, “You cannot prevent the birds of sorry from flying over your head. However, you can keep them from making a nest in your hair!” LOL

OK, I’ll shut up now before I really go nuts with all my favorite inspirational quotes, LOL!!!!!

Great post ~ thanks much. Hope all is well with y’all, & that the shoulder isn’t causing ya too much agony. Hang in there! :)

Oops… typo….that last quote in my comment should have been, “You cannot prevent the birds of SORROW…” (not “sorry”). Sheesh, I can’t type worth a flip. Which is sad, cuz I’m a secretary, LOL and type all day long. LOL!

I wonder how many times Kay has wrote lol at work and had to delete it….LOL. I love how happy she usually seems to be. Kat you know I love your heart right?

Now for AS, I do agree with you here. Actually had a guy come up to me today at the end of our work day and say….
” Time to go STRESS now…oops I mean time to go Home now.” I have no idea what he feels as I Love being home and enjoy my life with my sons. Though I am sure if he treated his wife half as good as he does the women at work he would not be feeling the way he does.
Guess what I am saying is…..life is truly what you make of it.

    K,

That guy sounds like an asshole. Maybe he ought to be told that.

    1) Aw, ~K, you’re so sweet. *hugs* So glad to call you my friend!

    2) A.S. is right ~ guy sounds like a major creepazoid and he should totally get a clue!

    AS,
I feel like that alot of the time. Life sure throws a bunch of curves our way but we just have to make the best of bad situations it seems.

None of us are perfect and we make mistakes all the time. I’m forever apologizing for my messups it seems. You are a good man to admit your mistakes. Some people wouldn’t admit that they have flaws for anything.

Take care and know that others feel like you do at times!!

Ha! This post is so close to home right now. Those on the outside, trying to break in tend to wear away at the defense you set up.

  9. CJ Says:

AS– Soldiers Angel hugs for you from PA! I know things have got to be tough for you, but hang in there! And don’t worry too much about the faults–we love you faults and all! (We better, cause we’ve all got ‘em!) You’re in my thoughts and prayers.
