Jarhead vs. Gunner Palace

American Soldier says,

Anyone going to see this piece of hollywood garbage? Read this - Jarhead Down? Gunner Palace Up?

I got one other comment about Jamie Foxx. The guy wants to have a convicted killer who happens to be the founder of the crips gang granted clemency. Despite the guy writing kids books and turning his life around, it does not eliminate the fact that he killed people and they can never come back.

I don’t care what you do after the fact. You make your own bed when you kill people and get convicted in our legal system. There is no doubt this guy that this guy killed because he was a useless thug.

yeah, I’ve seen a million commercials for it. But i’ve heard nothing but negative about the movie

I’m not sure what the hype over Gunner’s Palace is about. I found it to be basically a negative film. Any more proof that you need for that is that Michael Moore played it twice at his film festival….

  3. Travis Says:

I’ve not really seen gunner’s palace yet but from what i’ve heard, it wasn’t really marketed as a michael moore type film.

    Gunner Palace Rocks.

Gunner Palace is an in your face look at what an OIF deployment is like.

As for Michael Moore, he didn’t have anything to do with the film–hell, it was on the Military Channel last week.

Neither pro or anti-war, it just is. It’s honest.

    And BTW, Wilf for President!

  5. Murf Says:

Heck yeah. Looking at men in uniform are well worth the $9.50 ticket price. Who cares about the storyline.

[…] hnya: Opposition Lastly, a bunch of us from RMC are going to see Jarhead this weekend. Not many like it. If you have access to the IMDB forums, there is some interesting reading. Here’ […]

I don’t think it was that honest a protrayal of a OIF deployment. It was nothing but complaints. If you cut out the freestyler rap and guitar parts it’s about 45 minutes of complaining, the interperters are either killed or work for the terrorists, the Americans spend their time raiding innnocent civilians (I’m a journalist! I’m a journalist!) or swimming at the pool. It was a perfect movie for Maichael Moore, hence it got showed twice…

I went out and bought Gunner Palace as soon as it became available, and was left disappointed for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the focus on Wilf, who struck me as the stereotypical wise-ass complainer type. Trrops like him are politely referred to as “leadership challenges.” He wasn’t anyone I would have wanted in my squad. As far as Jarhead goes, from what I understand, most Marines, including those who know and served with Swofford, have a dim view of both him and the book itself.
