A day in the life of an American Soldier. The personal passages of everything from family life to war.

The latest

American Soldier says,

I want to let everyone know that AS has been injured. He was hurt in an IED attack. It is not life threatening and he should be OK. But he has been injured none the less. He is taking it easy the next few days before he gets further testing to determine the outcome of his injuries. He is not yet sure how this will effect his deployment. However, he is back with his unit but unable to go out on missions. He returned at his own request to be with his fellow soldiers.

He is trying to be in good spirits. But it can be hard to have to sit out on something you love doing. As i said it is not clear how this injury will impact his deployment. So both of us are taking it day by day. We are in more frequent contact since he is inside the wire. I think it helps us both to have that ability.

When we know more I will certainly let all of you know what will happen, as best I can. I want to say in advance, Thank you for the support and prayers. It means alot to us.

The Mrs.

[…] AS was just injured by an IED. This time it’s a bit more serious then the last. His wife told me He is pretty much fine. He is able to walk away from this, thankfully, with loss of hearing in one ear, a concussion, and some minor shrapnal wounds. The other guys were fine. He is back to his unit, but in the wire. […]

  15. devildog6771 Says:

I am so glad AS is ok. I pray for him and you and your family all the time. Whatever the out come of his injuries, I hope he remains safe. This is the second time now. Maybe it is time for AS to come home. He has done his part. More than his part. Injuries can lead to depression as part of their recovery. I would think this makes him susceptable to PTSD. Don’t want to alarm you, just want to offer some food for thought. Frankly MS. AS I’d start looking into a spouses support group and a group for him. I say this because I have PTSD and understand howe it can start. If you want any binfo, email me and I will send you anything I have as resources.

I hope you aren’t offended by my post or unnecessarily alarmed. PTSD with early intervention doesn’t have to be life altering. It also keeps its own schedule. It doesn’t get picked up right away because onset can be delayed. Strong me like AS are good at hiding their symptoms even from themselves. But if you look into it, go to outside sources for reasons we both know about.

  16. ~Michie D Says:

Classic example of the quality of our fighting forces. All they care about is protecting our country and their fellow soldiers from the enemy that wants to do us all harm. They NEVER worry about their own safety….Only others. Here he has been injuried and all he wants to is get back to his buddies to be by their side to protect them. The spirit of our troops never ceases to amaize me.

  89. Mrs Greyhawk Says:

I tried sending an email but recieved an error.
I’m Mrs Greyhawk, the MilBlog Ring Manager and a Soldiers’ Angel. Your husband has been a ring member from early on. I’m sorry to hear of his injury. My husband and I are stationed near Landstuhl, and I would be happy to visit him if they bring him here. It sounds like it could be a possiblity for tests. If he comes here as a outpatient, things could hit the suck factor, transportation wise. They have to catch a bus every where, and it’s very cold here now. I’d be happy to help him get around if that time comes. If he comes here and is placed at Kleber (outpatient barracks outside Landstuhl) We have a Soldiers’ Angel Support base there as well. (Soldier Angel Germany- http://www.sablogs.com/index.php?blog=40) runs it. Just wanted to let you know there are some Angels here if you need us.

    Mrs G

  92. Dadmanly Says:

AS, God Bless you and speed your recovery. I can understand your feelings of wnating to be with your unit and fellow soldiers.

Until such time as you are cleared to go outside the wire, I encourage you to make the most of your time inside. You know firsthand how important it is to have soldiers back at base getting patrols and convoys prepared, offering encouragement, and sometimes doing the unglamorous jobs that still need to be done.

Your a hero and offer a nobel sacrifice to your country juts by being where you are, no matter what you are called upon to do. Never forget, and I know you never will, that a grateful country salutes you, your suffering and sacrifices, big and small.

    Soldier and Soldier family,

I can only offer a few words, but heal up asap and enjoy your life. I owe you mine and my family’s lives as you keep the war there not here. My father was on a troop ship to Japan in WWII when the A bomb went off. His ship turned around and he went home. He may not have survived the battle but because of superior power he did and I was born years later. You are the A bomb that will allow many children to live here and abroad.
    Our prayers are with you.
