General ‘Black Jack’ Pershing
American Soldier says,
Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring forth a legend in Military history. A man that made a decision that in these times would most likely get him shot or dragged into the brig or both. This is due to the fact that we have weak minded, too soft and ‘ohh my god, that is so horrible’ types in office.
Let me remind you, the military is arresting its own members who go outside the wire and do the most unthinkable every single day. My only question is what is the difference between the Army when General Pershing was around and now? Have we really gotten a conscience about the brutalities of war?
General Pershing did something that if done in today’s war could possibly put an end to some things.
Born September 13th, 1860 near Laclede, Mississippi
Died July 15th, 1948 in Washington, D.C.
1891 Professor of Military Science and Tactics University of Nebraska
1898 Serves in the Spanish-American War
1901 Awarded rank of Captain
1906 Promoted to rank of Brigadier General
1909 Military Governor of Moro Province, Philippines
1916 Made Major General
1919 Promoted to General of the Armies
1921 Appointed Chief of Staff
1924 Retires from active duty
Education: 4 Years-West PointOne important thing to remember is that Muslims detest pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. Some of them simply refuse to eat it, while others won’t even touch pigs at all, nor any of their by-products. To them, eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise and doomed to hell.
Just before World War I, there were a number of terrorist attacks against the United States and it’s interests by, you guessed it, Muslim extremists.
So General Pershing captured 50 of the terrorists and had them tied to posts execution style. He then had his men bring in two pigs and slaughter them in front of the, now horrified, terrorists.
The soldiers then soaked their bullets in pigs blood, and proceeded to execute 49 of the terrorists by firing squad.
The soldiers then dug a big hole, dumped in the terrorist’s bodies and covered them in pig blood, entrails, etc.
They let the 50th man go. And for about the next 42 years, there was not a single attack by a muslim fanatic anywhere in the world.
Just imagine all the soldiers that could be saved if we just manned up and sent a clear message like he did!

Yes!!!! I read that about two years ago and have constantly referred back to General Pershing. I have always said it would take pigs blood and a shooting to stop this mess. I am glad someone else thinks the same.
Wouldn’t that be nice?
But you know the wimpy-chimps we have in Congress right now would hit the roof and our guys would end up like the Leavenworth 7.
*sigh*
We have become a country of sheeps, without enough sheepdogs in the right places.
wow, i’ve never heard of General Pershing, or maybe i have and wasn’t paying attention. but i completly agree, if our country wasn’t run by wimps and if they would take charge and send a clear message we might not be in the mess we are.
hell yes!! that could solve some problems right there. I totally agree with AFsister, our country has become to sensitive about “war crimes”, when really we violate every rule in the geneva convention except for those that need breaking.
“war is never bloodless or perfect and it will never will be and anyone who believes that will only suffer defeat and perhaps death due to their misguided ideals of reality.” -Nano. i quote myself only make my point sooner. The U.S. before the invasion of Iraq had the option of defeating its islamist enemies and those who support them by isolating them from support by fellow muslims around the world by changing our foreign policy and killing of as quickly as possible those who remained.
The key mistakes likely on purpose to focus the country on Iraq invasion by U.S. leaders in Afghanistan and the subsequent invasion of Iraq has left us very few options and all involve hunting and killing our enemies at an efficient rate and ever increasing rate numbering in the tens of thousands till they accept defeat or fight to the very last man. I am aware that there are many others who will read my post who are the very enemies we seek to destroy, but given the nature of our enemy I will not be giving anything away they already know it. AS has in fact hit on the truth of the present situation as explained for reasons above. The application of our military power is fast becoming our only option, soon we will have to decide whether we will apply it daintly as we have against our enemies or accept that we are unwilling to kill for our interests and leave the middle east all together.
The enemy will only grow stronger and will eventually seek retribution against the U.S. or maybe not (peace agreement with the Islamist of the world?!) AS I believe you were describing the symptom of what Kent Gramm most eloquently puts it as duty “because duty is always a requirement of the future, often without reward for the doer, and often entailing sacrifice. The sacrifice is made for those to come. Today, those to come are sacrificed for our pleasure” I believe that the failure of many to perform their duty lies at the heart of why three thousand Americans died on 9/11 and
the reason the U.S. is embroiled in Iraq and Afghanistan with no clear objectives to victory.
AS,
That would have surely gotten our troops thrown into the brig for God knows how long. We are entirely too soft on the enemy and then they (terrorists) go and behead people. When will we ever wake up and quit yelling for our heroes to thrown in prison. What a shame!
I have long considered General Pershing one of the truly great heroes of the American military, but this was the first time I heard this story. Now I admire him even more. It took a lot of courage to do that…and, while I think our military would be up to the job, I seriously doubt the American public would be once the MSN got through with their spin. The double standard the terrorists enjoy is both sickening and downright maddening.
Thank you for your service and for blogging about it. I’ve been reading for a few months and *greatly* appreciate your viewpoint. Be safe.
lol…that should be MSM…oops!
That guy had guts. I totally agree with what he did. Why drop bombs when we can drop pigs? FFS and about the Geneva convention, yeah that was for conventional war, I dont think whats going on atm is conventional, so frack the Geneva convention.
Guy had guts, I respect him for that. You guys think your troops have it bad? In Britain its worse.
Certainly, the insurgents are resorting to the type of barbarism that you refer to with their suicide bombings and beheadings. Saddam Hussein also applied the same type of brutality to intimidate his enemies. I think that is why the Administration said he was “evil.” In any event, I doubt resorting to the same level of brutality will win the war, especially if there is any hope of winning the hearts and minds of the Iraqis in order to establish a democracy there. Or does the reason we are fighting there not matter any more?
If I had been there I probably would have the same way General Pershing felt. However it is vital to remember that this was before the United States signed the Geneva Convention. We signed that Convention, in significant part, to protect our own soldiers. That point was brought home to us during WWII when our soldiers in Japanese prisoner of war caamps were horribly abused by the Japanese. When we tried to get better treatment for our soldiers the Japanese reminded us that they hadn’t signed the Geneva Convention.
Alberto Gonzalez called some of the provisions of the Geneva Convention “quaint”. Why? They are still intended to protect our soldiers and keep our behavior true to our highest aspirations and best traditions.
The Iraquis havbe elected their own government and we have shown them how to train soldiers and police officers. We can feel free to bring our soldiers home where we can give them our appreciation, love and care. Seventy five percent of them have said they think they should be brought home in the next six months. Let’s do it.
It is not that simple. If you look back and research when the U.S. first had an engagement with insurgents and Muslims, it was the Philippine-American War from 1899-1913. Some historians consider this as the longest American war as it remains a problem even up to now. It was also the first time hamletting and guerilla warfare strategies were employed since most of the American generals had experience with the Indian wars.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine-American_War#American_torture_and_scorched-earth_campaigns
Much of the same strategies were used during the Vietnam war and they proved to be ineffective. The lasting legacy of this war was the development of the 45-caliber (1911 model) since the Moros could not be stopped by regular issue bullets when they carry out their suicide attacks.
You’re right, it would never happen in these times.
However, I wonder how many of our military may be quietly lubricating their ammo, and just keeping it to themselves? I know I would be giving it a try.
Hmmm…It’s not exactly causal or that simple. If I recall a major factor in the kick-off of the Mutiny in India back in 1857 was the introduction of a new cartridge that the sepoys thought was coated with lard (from pigs) and tallow (from beef), thus offending the sensibilities of both Muslim and Hindu sepoys who would have had to handle the cartridge…and triggering a Mutiny that killed thousands.
I think when you mess around with someone’s spiritual beliefs and deliberately set about violating them in the most fundamental way possible you stand more chance of inflaming opposition then you do in surpressing it. Pershing was successful for a number of factors, not just because he buried 49 guerillas with some pigs…
Outstanding! One small correction though. The General was born at Laclede, Missouri not Mississippi.
I wish it was true but I hate to burst your balloon but check-out this link:
http://www.snopes.com/rumors/pershing.htm
GEN Pershing left another legacy to the Army that a lot of folks don’t know.
During the punitave expedition to Mexico, Pershing had a young, fire-breathing 2LT that he trained and mentored.
That 2LT grew up to be GEN George Patton.
I don’t know that it makes any difference whether the story of Gen. Pershing is fact or fiction. I think the overall point is, that a kinder, gentler, sensitive, politically correct fighting force does not make a force to be feared or revered. That doesn’t mean there are no boundries or rules, or that they shouldn’t conduct themselves in a respectable manner. But sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. The Muslim extremists have outrageous beliefs, and I doubt you’ll get through to them by average methods.
Great post AS. I too have read this before. I was surprised yet not surprised to hear that General Patton was his 2nd. LT. There was another great hero for you! I also admired greatly MacArthur. My dad served under both these Generals. Their men might not always like to be on the receiving end of their wrath; but, they loved and respected the hell out of both for they way they led and looked out for their troops. That last big offensive by Patton has never been duplicated in military history.
Sadly Patton was pushed aside and died of a brain anuerism and was buried in Europe while MacArthur was shipped off to West Point. The world at large, especially American politics, felt there was no longer a need for this “type” of soldier. Had the politicians listened to Patton and let him stop the Russin onslaught then, we may not be where we are today. Certainlt there would have been no “cold war.”
If the League of Nations and later the UN had made France and England honor their agreements to free their colonial empire hold on those countries in the MIddle East and the ones in Africa, and the two had honored their agreements made after WWl too, we might also be in a different place.
I have have to laugh when I hear us described as an Empire or imperialists. We do not have an empire. I truly think most of Europe resents that we had the money and a president who was able to implement the Marshall plan and rebuild Europe. The devastation was so severe, the focus was never able to apply to any of those nations rebuilding their own militaries so they didn’t need our bases. Now they want us gone but are economically dependent on those same bases they now hate so much.
With the influx of terrorists and aliens throughout Europe right now, the Europeans are looking to the US to see what we did differently that made our aliens feel part of the country after a while while in Eurpoe that isn’t happening. One big difference seems to be that no matter how much is given or provided for health, education, etc. the people [aliens] are not absorbed into the society. Where our immagrants live together in areas by choice and can migrate out and even wind up holding office like Arnold S., that isn’t done throughout Europe. It seems second generation aliens have the most trouble.
In America second generation aliens [born in America] do have some cultural difficulties, but they go to school with other aliens and the non aliens in their area. They are immediately allowed the persuit, side by side with the nationals so to speak, life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness. Europe still has an under lying upstairs/downstairs mentality and a passion for holding on to the past with regard to “proper” and non proper” etc. that we generally only see in some wealthy. But even with the wealthy, we really don’t have the degree of “them” and “us” mentality. Or, if you will, we do not really ahve an aristocracy as such.
Throuighout the Middle East you have the “clans.” While racial issues are not totally gone from any race here, for the most part, raciual barriers are not a dominant cultural aspect for us except for the few extreme groupsd of people. Though many may not personally approve of inter racial relationships, especially for themselves, there is now a much more tolerant atitude.
That doesn’t mean that we don’t have these issues. But, we do not hide these issueslike they don’t exist. One of the comments I have frequently heard from people from Europe, especially, is we “don;t hide our dirty linen.” That always a source of criticism about us in Europe that is rapidly in many circles of thought being looked at more closely as maybe a better way to handle problems. Personally, I agree.
Sorry about being so long winded. You and a few others always seem to set off my thinking cap. I’d be interestedin your thoughts here. [If you’re up to it or consider it a woirthwhile topic]
Take care AS. I see some of the old AS starting to slip through. You are slowly on the mend. Just don’t beat yourself up on the bad days. Just roll with them. My best to your wife and kids. Remember we are all praying for you and here if you need us.
If this site is so pathetic, what are you doing here?
John Pershing was born in Laclede, Missouri and attended school in Kirksville, Mo before his acceptance to West Point.
Proud Missourian
As someone mentioned above, this occurred in the fight against Muslims in the Philippines. Today there is a publication called “Filipinas”, run by a group young American communists in California who pretend that Muslim terrorists were patriotic Filipinos, never true. Most of their grandparents are strong Catholics who know first hand of Islamic terrorists. Their hobbies seem to be beheading people they do not like, and stealing form their neighbors to finance their trip Mecca. Having traveled in the Philippines, I know that most older Filipinos are very pro-American.
Pershing jumped from Captain to Brigadier rank. Skipping more than one rank to do it, that really pissed off the “old guard”.
Pershing also prevented the Euro “allies” from breaking up the American boys in WWI, to be used as cannon fodder reinforcements for French and British regiments.
To AF sister, there is a reason the Founding Fathers gave Governors and Presidents the power of the pardon. The Executive executes, that is its primary power. TO prevent Congress and the Judiciary from interfering, the President can basically pardon anyone that the Judiciary convicts and anyone that does something that Congress made illegal.
Congress can impeach the President and not create laws for him to sign, and Congress can cut the funds, but Congress cannot jail the soldiers acting under Presidential orders when the President has already pardoned them.
The Judiciary is the weakest of the branches, yet they don’t seem so weak now do they. This imbalance of power is corrosive, and Bush won’t use his pardon power “because he sees it as improper”. The Judiciary has neither the Executive powers of execution nor the Congressional powers of funding or law making. It is supposed to be the weakest and most ineffective branch.
Bush is not a Caesar, and people who know about Caesar, knows what I mean by that.
Good post, A.S.!
Actually John, Snopes doesn’t say this story is false either. And seaurchin said it right. A story doesn’t have to be true to present an idea, or moral. For example, Jesus taught in parables. They weren’t true, but they told us how we should live.
And because there’s always ‘that one guy’
*Disclaimer: I’m not comparing this story to Jesus’ parables.
Actually the use of pig parts seems to have been developed NOT by Pershing but rather by another Army officer whose grim methods proved so effective that they were adopted by others. These methods included beheading a dead Moro Juramentado (or “amok,” who had pledged himself to a sword-swinging suicide attack) and burying the head in a pigskin.
Time to the don the jack boots. The only way to win this war is by linging suspects up and shooting them. A close friend who I was in the ATC with when I was at 169Sqn is at a mob centre now, dunno how long for but he’ll be sent to Afgainstan. 3 Para is allready feeling it there. No doubt I’ll be there within the next 1-2 years. Brutal methods are needed now. Instead of killing insurgents, we should torture the hell out of them. Some would msot likely give it up, no amtter how strong their faith is, seeing an old friend with his genitals sown into his mouth and a pigs head on each arm would surely frighten.
Anyone else agree that the conflict is been fought with one hand tied behind the Senior Officers backs?
Pershing didn’t do that. Doesn’t anybody ever read biographies anymore? Pershing’s strategy was to surround and wait them out. He was careful not to take any action that would inflame religious fanaticism because he knew if they went fanatical he would have an even tougher fight on his hands. If somebody actually did this (kill muslims and bury them in pig blood/guts, whatever) it wasn’t Pershing.
Justin ol’ veteran
I believe that is human rights abuse. What about some of the soldiers who allegedly killed Iraqi civilians. To prevent others from doing this should we do something un thinkable to them, something against thier beliefs? How about we force them to have sex with a guy then kill em? Yea that would show them. You my friend are one sick kitty.
If you lose your humanity you have lost the war.
Jon - have you tried telling that to the bad guys, and not us first? That is a bunch of horse shit. Humanity is War. And you do what it takes to save more soldiers lives. If that means killin pigs, and scaring the bad guys to save our soldiers lives… then lets do it. The enemy is inhumane, and inhumanity is the language they speak so well. Piss on the koran, and innocent people die for it. Yet they’ll desecrate anyone else’s beliefs while committing insanely inhumane acts of violence against the innocent.
Your mindset is that of a victim, and defeatist.
Jana: We signed that Convention, in significant part, to protect our own soldiers. That point was brought home to us during WWII when our soldiers in Japanese prisoner of war caamps were horribly abused by the Japanese. When we tried to get better treatment for our soldiers the Japanese reminded us that they hadn’t signed the Geneva Convention.
So signing them didn’t really help us out there, did it? Hmmm … did Al Qaeda or the Iraqi insurgency sign the Geneva Conventions?
The Geneva conventions haven’t done us much good after WWII. We say we shouldn’t do this kind of thing so our enemies won’t do it to our soldiers they’ve captured. Yet, the North Koreans tortured and summarily executed captured US troops, as did the North Vietnamese, and the Taliban. As for Iraq, go tell it to Tucker and Menchaca.
If we don’t commit these sort of acts, it isn’t because ‘if we do that, we’ll have lost the war.’ That’s nonsense. This isn’t some metaphysical canoe trip where sincerely paddling counts more than actually getting anywhere. If we don’t do this sort of thing, it’s because it’s simply not the best tactic.
That’s why Howard Smith is one sick kitty. He would rather have US troops and Iraq civilians continue to be murdered and tortured to death than discuss ways to possibly shorten the war and save bloodshed all around. If you could show me that summary execution and burial with pig entrails of a few terrorists would make the enemy stop fighting us, I’d say go for it. I just don’t think it would work in this war, and I think it would work against us instead.
With you on that Chad.
As for above, Geneva convention was mean primarily for us in the West, especially the EU. But countries uncivilised and barvaric dont exactly follow the articles of war. War is humanity, its human instinct. If it costs 1millinon innocent lives, so tha ta pa,ltoon can get home its loved ones. Then so be it, their my country man, the 1million are my enemy. Nuff said? Think so.
If we lsoe our humanity we dont lose the war. Makes us better soldiers, better killers. As for doing somthing crazy to the soldiers up for trial. Just chuck them in jail, tbh, its the govt’ and the training establishments fault.
Duke
Pershing was a hero remembered for greater things, it is sad that it is for also masacuring terrorists. We are better then those we fight…if we don’t keep our morals, then we are just as wrong as those we are defending against. Like most, I have been there and back and carry the scars, but I am still living in a civilized country, and I am civil even to the uncivilized. I led by example, I fight by example, I believe in the example of humanity, not barbaric actions, will make tomorrow a better day. That is why I sacrificed part of myself. I came to terms before I joined, not as a reaction to me experiences.
We’re all thinking that a coalition soldier, who is a target over there. Has the right to go home. A man who wants to believe extremist preaching and go ruin the re-development of his country, or someone elses country, should suffer the consequences. If you were out there, would you not fire your weapon? They wouldnt listen to you, they would sooner kill you. Your own countrymen could die, because your weapon wasnt firing.
9/11 and 7/7 USUK, united we fight.
AS and all the servicemen and women who serve in the coalition armed forces, regardless if you carry paperwork, or fire your weapon. Thankyou.
We’ve been fighting Muslims longer than just the Spanish-American war… a notion put forward by an earlier poster (on 6/27) as our first engagement with Muslims/Muslim insurgents.
Remember President Jefferson dispatched the Navy/Marines against the Barbary pirates of North Africa who were… Muslims. Perhaps, they were not insurgents, but they were certainly “Terrorists on the high sea.” To the best of my knowledge, this was our Nation’s first (of many) War(s) with Islamic Terrorists.
Heck, it’s even acknowledged in the _Marines’ Hymn_, “…To the shores of Tripoli” referring to the capture of Derne by Marines in 1805.
Well, take it for what is worth, just my two cents on the matter.
Swear that was Operation Torch.
Its true that we have so weakended our National Security policys that we have become vulnerable. Its Men like Pershing that caused fear and respect. We need that back. Alpha males are running low within the ranks of our Lawmakers. Remember George Orwells famous qoute………”People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” I am a rough man and I feel no shame in doing violence to those that attempt to harm my great country. Liberals and the Anti-US minority(Not Minorites by race) are ripping this country apart. Example would be Christmas. The likes of the ACLU and their attack on our customs is horrible. I am really beginning to get tired of these people that come here and claim that they are offended. If our country is so terrible Haul ass out of it. The first jack ass that tries to tke my Nativity scene out of my yeard will be shot and his house burned. Damn im ranting. God Bless our Country and our troops.
Sgt G ( Purple Heart recipient OIFII)
You even had to be PC with the minority statement, and whats worse, you mention Christmas, same shit over here in England. Excet your flag wont be changed. The St.Georges Cross may be changed becuase muslims find it offensive. THATS MY FLAG FFS!
Although there are valuable lessons to be relearnt from the American campaign in the Philippines (gee, I wonder whatever happened to those Moro anyway?), sadly, this is not one of them.
“The desire for simplistic solutions to complex problems has spawned several widely-circulated messages of late which seek to transform a fight against terrorism to the easily-manageable level of a horror film or a comic strip… (read the rest at Snopes)”.
If you’re interested in historical Phillipines trivia, might I suggest a Google on the history of the phrase “white man’s burden”? It won’t be as comforting as a pig-blood smeared magic-bullet, but it might be a bit more useful for avoiding the same goddamn mistakes every 20 years or so.
Ah yes, all we need are some incidents of extreme brutality, and then we would have the Muslims beat! If only the Soviets in Afghanistan had been aware of this, they could have defeated the Islamic insurgents who later took out the twin towers after mopping up the Russians. Instead, the Soviets treated the muhajadeen with that wimpy, “kid-glove” treatment that the Red Army was so famous for, instead of manning-up and engaging in torture, summary executions, and reprisals.
do they stay away from smokey bacon flavoured crisps aswell
MAN I WISH WE HAD A MAN LIKE THAT TODAY. SCREW P.C.,ness , THESE HEATHEN SAVAGES NEED TO BE WACKED HARD!!!!!!!!! A CASE IN POINT IS THE BODY OF ZARQUAWI. I WOULD HAVE STUFFED THE @#$%!%*, AND MOUNTED HIM , AND PUT HIM IN THE GREEN BERET MUSEUM IN BRAGG!!!!!!!!!! AND WE NEED TO USE MORE PSY OP TACTICS. DEMORALIZE THEM!!!!!!!! AND PUT THEM IN A WORLD OF HURT FROM WHICH THERE IS ONLY ONE OPTION, SURRENDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my 7 (all served in Military) sent me the Black Jack Pershing email and that’s how I ended up here is that I was researching the credibility of the story. True it is on snopes here’s the address
http://www.snopes.com/rumors/pershing.htm - - Cached. The bottom line is that no one knows if the story is true or not. My bros. “Bud” who sent it to me is a 30 year retired Air Force Chief, it was a different military then ( I only have 2 bros. left living ). Many of you I’ve read are truly what this country was founded on, Blood, Sweat, Tears, Courage..True Men/Women-patriots. I can almost guess ages and backgrounds as I read your post. You’re right the PC’S just don’t get it. I just want you to know that there are people who do appreciate, love, respect and pray for you and your families. Who are grateful that we speak-read-write in english, have the freedom and liberty we all share. yes, there’s a lot that need to be addressed about our society (like how the hell did all the acronymic groups get control of so much that has changed our lives for the worse !!!), but WE ARE A FREE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!and that’s why you’re there for those who didn’t know (not the rest of you who have sense enough to know ), so that when you do come home you will have a home to come to! As for pigs blood-? I do know one thing that works- Prayer. In the book of Daniel 10:12-13 an archangel was held up and had to get help from another angel to fight The Prince OF Persia- don’t take me lightly read it. then read Ephesians chapter 6. We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, againstthe rulersof the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places vs.12. Think about it-what do Muslims do 5 times a day everyday. What are you doing? Sweating, worrying, planning, guarding, over n over n over. what do you have to lose? The battle is MINE said the Lord. His Grace (unmerited favor) IS Sufficient. If You could agree the way they agree- you would get somewhere, the word says where 2 or more of you are there Am I in the Midst of you. OK so maybe you can’t get your hands on a bible…if you can get to this post you can get to www.BibleGateway.com you can even look up stuff you can’t remember where was… Sirs/Madams nothing but love and hope for you all to get through in Victory and come home and be fulfilled in every aspect of your lives. Many are praying for you-but please pray with…you more than anyone knows what/who to pray for…I’m not talking buttercup christians praying…I’m talking warriors as you yourselves are and further could be if you are armed correctly redeeming the time(Ephesians 5:16) because the days are evil, and putting on the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:10) .
I can say no more for it’s in your hands to help one another as you have been in past, just give God a chance to work- Sometimes I have to get out of His way so He can, and to my suprise He doesn’t need my help. Fl Gal USA
I’ve long considered the solution to the many of the world’s ills is CAPITALISATION AND EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!!!!! It helps if your a barely literate nutjob that’s long since relinquished their grasp on reality. Americans tend to telegraph this kind of deranged nonsense to the world and then stand around in opened mouthed amazement wondering why everyone thinks they’re a mob of unmitigated buffoons. While demuring to your big guns when you’re watching, even your allies point and laugh at you behind your back.
(And a note to Jachim, don’t be writing that sort of you know they’ll think you’re genuine.)
A minor point for Osons. There is no “Green Beret” museum at Fort Bragg, there is a U.S. Army Special Warfare Museum. Likewise, the only green berets they have at Fort Bragg are either on heads or in the clothing sales store. The green beret is a hat. The individual who wears it is a Special Forces soldier. And if you run into any SF types who refer to themselves as “green berets”, they are either reservists, young guys just out of training, or rear echelon types trying to impress the girls.
Good call lirelou.
Otherwise I felt Osons’ post was extremely lucid, and both well thought out and constructed.
THE OWNER OF THIS BLOG HAS EVERY RIGHT TO DO WHAT HE PLEASES. I FIND IT FUNNY THOUGH, THAT YOU WOULD LET A DIRTBAG LIKE RYSIU BAD MOUTH YOURCOUNTRY, AND WHEN I AS AN ALLIE STAND UP FOR MYSELF AND YOUR COUNTRY, YOU CENSOR ME!!!! AND AS FAR AS LIRELOU IS CONCERNED , HIS RESPONSE TO ME CALLING GREEN BERETS GREEN BERETS, IS SO ASNINE AND JUVENILE , IT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT HE IN FACT IS A SELF TAUGHT ‘ EXPERT’ , BUT HAS NEVER REALLY SEEN THE ‘ELEPHANT’!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I SPENT A YEAR AT BRAGG ON EXCHANGE. WHERE YOU BEEN BOY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL LIST THIS SITE AS SLIGHTLY P.C. AND I WON,T BE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!:???:
Gentlemen, ladies, the Gen. Black Jack Pershing story is unfounded and untrue. Think - who reported it and documented it? How could this event, reported by one freed Islamic terrorist in 1916 or ‘17, affect the actions of all others around the world for decades to come? And today, how can we know we have captured 50 actual terrorists? We can’t even verify that in Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib. Oh… just kill them all, right? It’s a lie, folks. Fight for something that’s true. You may then go to Heaven.
True or not Henry, what is it going to take for us to destroy the concept of terrorism in the middle east? Would lining up 49 Terrorist in the street and shooting them do any good? No, we both know that.
All that energy in trying to dispell the story, why not give some input on what you think we ought to do in the middle east?
*grabs pop corn*
If I may…
Actually, this is way too big a topic It’s not all down to the US… they just have the greatest power, and therefore the greatest responsibility. First of all, the definition of what terrorism is is problematical. 20 civillians on the end of a smart bomb is collateral damage, 20 civillians on the end of a human bomb is an attrocity. This sort of comparison often draws the charge of justifying terrorism, when in fact it is the opposite: it aims to delegitimise military action. Terrorism is the resort of those who can’t achieve an outcome by any other means. Let us say the US diverted it’s military funding from Isreal to the Palestinian Territories… how many suicide bombings would we see in Tel Aviv? So, the question (I believe) is not how to “stop terrorism” but rather how to achieve a just outcome.
Also I think Henry Jr was well within his rights to hammer another nail in the Pershing story. It was very much set up an “if only we had someone like this” angle… you can’t then turn around and say “well clearly that wouldn’t have worked, but why must you be so negative?” Had an alternative version of the story involved him sticking roses between their teeth, leading to the same conclusion, whoever propagated the falsehood would be rightly challenged. It just seems as though the default US position is visiting violence upon its enemies, and then if this doesn’t work the reasoning is generally that they weren’t ruthless enough. Watching history repeat is getting rather boring… if I may quote Tacitus: Where they make a desert, they call it peace.
Debunked. Remove this trash from your site. Check your facts first next time.

We can discuss how these tactics may or may not be real and if they will or will not work in our modern war but I think there is a better way to fight them. Quit funding their war by buying their oil. Each of us have a vote too. Each dollor you do not spend at the pump takes a buck out of a terroist’s hand.
Ironically, General Pershing’s surname is “one letter away from perishing”, the cruel bastard!
And to think, people wonder why soldiers get shot, and muslims hate the west!?
Self fulfilling prophecy - if you can’t outrightly kill foreigners, make them want to kill you , be big enough threat, to attack back. bah.
Best Wishes,
Azio
This man was on the cutting edge of hard core winning at war. He did not hesitate or neither did he have to worry about being arrested for his actions. The genieva convention is set forth to allow for humane treatment of soldiers, and the other side is not playing by the rules. Throw out the rules, do the PERSHING thing on tv, listen to the world sing. Then when their villages fall on their heads from earthquake, war or whatever, close the bank, send them a Micky D’s gift card.

I’ve done a lot of reading on this subject and can’t say if its completly true or not. Some say yes, some say no. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. What I can tell you is that the enemy our troops are fighting in Afgan. and Iraq are ruthless and don’t care about “rules”. We will never win thier “hearts & minds”. We need to us our technology and bigger wallet to crush the enemy. Every time a U.S. or British convoy is attacked I always see a group of guys with A.K.-47’s laughing and dancing around. Someone please tell me why a 2,000lb smart bomb is not dropped to turn them into pizza toppings. As far as the Geneva Convention is concerned, I say “kill” all the terriosts, no more prisoners of war or whaterer you want to call them, you can’t fight over Geneva Convention rights for the dead. I dont claim to have all or even any of the answers on how to win in Iraq. I can tell you that doing nothing wont work, ask Bill Clinton, and pussyfooting around wont work either, I’m open to all suggestions.
Hey Deano:
You said, “I think when you mess around with someone’s spiritual beliefs and deliberately set about violating them in the most fundamental way possible you stand more chance of inflaming opposition then you do in surpressing it.”
Do you mean such a fundamental spiritual belief as, “Thou shalt not kill (murder)”? That’s one of the ten fundamental tenets of Christianity, yet the Islamofascists have no problem violating it. Then they scream louder over an alleged desecration of the Quran than some American’s do over the beheading of an innocent man.
I think we ought to outfit several B-52 with pig blood and then drop it on Mecca
What an insensitive thing to say! Oh, mercy me. I hardly know what to say. It worked in WW2. It would work again. CNN would hate you for this.
WHOA! Stop for a moment, folks, and think this thing through: Who are our REAL enemies in the Middle East?
Answer: Sadistic, fanatical, merciless Muslim Tyrants and Clerics–
–the ones frustrating our efforts to help bring peace and freedom to their suffering subjects.
And how have they succeeded? By recruiting avid, misguided young fellow Muslims to become suicide bombers and terrorists by promising each one a secure place in Paradise where they would live eternally in royal luxury with food, wine, and 20 virgins. That is a reward sanctioned by their Koran–and quite an enticement for
poor, brave, devout Muslim young men.
The remaining fanatical Muslim terrorists are taught how to wage a form of guerrilla warfare using innocent children as shields, hiding behind their own women’s skirts and seeking refuge in schools and mosques.
Then-Captain (and future General) John J. Pershing’s solution to the Moro terrorists in the Moro Province, Philippines was crude but very effective. We can refine his technique to be much more “PC” by announcing to the whole world that henceforth all bodily remains
of suicide bombers and terrorists will be retrieved and prepared for a Christian burial by being annointed with pig’s blood and then very gently interred in or on the nearest public pigsty.
Muslims are also killing Muslims (such as Shiites vs. Sunni’s and vice-versa). Therefore, an exception will be made: non-combatants who are killed will be cared for by their own kind.
Instead of sending another 20,000 troops to Iraq, let’s send a couple of thousand pigs. We could call it “Project Soowee-soowee-soowee-cide.
This may be an urban legend. I have heard of this incident, and I think it is excellent work if it actually is true. However, you can’t believe what you read online (Damn shame)
See snopes.com, breakthechain.org or rumormillnews.com. They all say it’s an urban legend. Shame really, cause I would love to see this plan put into action.
For the same reasons, my dad wants to put pigs on planes and other places that might get targeted by suicide bombers. I imagine the Israalis wouldn’t be too thrilled with having a live pig or two running around on their buses, but in my opinion if that is what it takes in order to be able to make it home in time for tea, then so be it. Might be a little inconvenient, but getting blown to pieces is really inconvenient.
Response to Jake: That was ignorant, dude. We don’t hate ALL the muslims, just the crazy ones.
